I've been starting to collect old Thinkpads for fun, mostly because they hold up so well over time (battery not withstanding) and the build quality goes from generally good to amazing. Since they get liquidated often from businesses upgrading their machines you can find recent-ish models semi-cheap and generally everything works out of the box on Linux.
There's a couple of crazy-ish mods you can do for a lot of these machines (mostly around the X20x series) so I might as well talk about what I've done so far to these.
So here's my collection so far and generally what I use them for:
- T480 (Current Main)
- X60 (My goto 4:3 laptop)
- X200 (libreboot/device encrypted)
- X230 (Banjo Kazooie BIOS)
